6 Tips to Dressing for a Holiday Party

Thanksgiving just passed, Christmas and New Year are just around the corner, and with any big holiday that brings family and friends together, over eating is almost expected. The last thing you want to do is worrying about your outfit during a holiday party. Here are six tips to dressing for a holiday party so you can look great and still be yourself this season.

6 Tips for Dressing for the Holiday Party

1. Wear comfortable clothes. We are not saying wear your pajamas but wear a skirt that is a little loose or maybe even a shift dress; something that is easy to move in and can be forgiving if you over-indulge in a few too many cookies!

2. Accessorize. No matter if you opt for the little black dress or a dressy top and quality denim, any outfit is better when you jazz it up with a statement necklace, stand-out earrings or a bright scarf. Feel free to go glitzy and glam this year.

3. Beware of the waistband. If you have already committed to wearing pants, or even a fitted skirt, make sure it is not tight before you leave your house. Pants that start tight will only get tighter as the day progresses. Silk pants are always fun, very flowy and quite comfortable!

4. Layer your look. Try pairing your dress with a shirt underneath, or a cardigan on top. Attempt a little mix and matching with things that you might not have considered combining before. This is a fun way you can give an old dress a new look, and save money in the process.

5. Dress appropriate for the weather. For example, if you live in the Midwest, now is not the time to breakout that adorable summer dress. The last thing anyone wants after a great holiday meal is to be full and cold. Know your climate and dress accordingly.

6. Don’t stress! Whether you are getting together with family or friends, remember you are surrounding yourself with people you love. Your outfit does not have to be perfect. Focus more on the people you are with and stress less about the way you hope they’ll perceive you. Afterall, a smile can go further in completing an outfit, than all the perfect combinations of clothing items you can dream up.
